Africa-Kenya: number of flood-related deaths reaches 188 since March

XALIMENEWS-The number of deaths linked to floods in Kenya has reached 188, according to Radio France Internationale which cites the latest report from the Kenyan Ministry of the Interior published this Thursday.

Since the start of the rainy season in March, the country has faced devastating weather conditions, leading to impassable roads, flight diversions, and the collapse of bridges and dams. Unfortunately, this tragic toll is likely to become even worse.

According to RFI, which cites the Ministry of the Interior, 90 people are still missing, more than half of whom are victims of the collapse of a water reservoir in Mai Mahiu, located about a hundred kilometers north of Nairobi. , during the night from Sunday to Monday.

Currently, rescuers are mobilized in the Masai Mara, the famous national park in the southwest of the country. Since Wednesday, around a hundred tourists have been trapped by the waters. A flood from a tributary of the Mara River swept away several camps and lodges. Tents and bungalows were completely submerged in water and mud. The Kenyan Red Cross said it had already evacuated more than 90 travelers.
