The former mayor of the city of giants, Jacques Vernier, left the belfry 10 years ago. At the head of Douai for 31 years, the former leader looks back on his career, on what he has accomplished and talks about his retirement in a long interview.

A man in his thirties was tried by the Douai criminal court last Thursday for contempt of an agent, death threats and damage to material property. These events took place at Dechy hospital. The man lost his patience after being hospitalized because he wanted to smoke a cigarette. The tone thus rose between him, the hospital staff as well as the security agents.

The city of Douai offers driving lessons to seniors in order to practice road safety and to allow them greater autonomy. The “seniors behind the wheel” course is available for 10 euros. In this pack, the city offers ten hours of theory concluding with an hour of driving. An opportunity for older people to stay careful on the roads.

The Lewarde Historical Mining Center will celebrate its 40th anniversary! For the occasion, a weekend of festivities is planned from May 2 to 5 in this place steeped in history.
