The mujahid and historian, Mohamed Larbi Zebiri, died yesterday Monday in Algiers, at the age of 83 following a long illness, we learned from his relatives.

Born in 1941, the deceased was among the authors known in the field of writing the history of the Liberation Revolution, popular revolts and the National Movement, counting to his credit several works and translations of books, in addition to the scientific and press articles in several magazines and newspapers.

The deceased participated in the Liberation War, contributing to the strike of May 19, 1956 before joining the ranks of the National Liberation Army (ALN).

After independence, he joined the National Liberation Front (FLN) party, while continuing his studies.

The late man holds several degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in 1965, a Postgraduate Diploma in History in 1970, and a State Doctorate in Philosophy of History from the University of Baghdad in Iraq in 1994.

Throughout his rich career, the deceased had held several positions, including that of president of the Union of Algerian Writers in 1981, secretary general of the Union of Algerian Writers, Journalists and Translators in 1985, in addition to having been a member of the Union of Arab Historians, before founding, in 1991, the “Forum of Thought and Culture” in Algiers.

The late mujahid left numerous works on the War of Liberation, such as “The first year of the Algerian Revolution”, “The ideology of the Algerian Revolution”, “The Algerian intellectuals and the Revolution”, in addition to historical and intellectual works such as “The cultural invasion in Algeria 1962-1982” and “Historical overview of the Algerian State”.

The deceased was also interested in the history of Algeria and its relationship with its North African and Arab environment, through his works “Abd El Nasser and the Algerian Revolution”, “Introduction to the modern history of the Arab Maghreb » and “the Arab resistance”, in addition to translations of several works, including “Memories of Ahmed Bey”, “Memories of Raïs Hamidou” as well as “The Mirror”, by Hamdan Ben Othman Khodja.
