A 23-year-old man was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention this Sunday, September 29. He is suspected of being the author of two attempted murders which took place on the night of Monday September 23 to Tuesday September 24, the Orléans public prosecutor’s office said this Monday September 30.

This Sunday, September 29, a 23-year-old man was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention as part of an open judicial investigation into charges of attempted murder for events that occurred in Orléans () on the night of Monday September 23 to Tuesday September 24, 2024.

That night, gunshots were heard in downtown Orléans around 3:30 a.m. On site, the police discovered two victims with gunshot wounds. The first injured is a 31-year-old man. The second injured is a 27-year-old man. The latter was found unconscious in an apartment.

The two victims were quickly taken care of by the emergency services and were transported to hospital, “to receive care appropriate to their state of health, which remains critical,” said Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren, prosecutor of the Republic of Orléans, this Monday September 30.

The suspect surrendered

A flagrant investigation into the heads of assassination attempts was opened and entrusted to the interdepartmental judicial police service (SIPJ). However, approximately three days after the events, Friday September 27, a 23-year-old man presented himself to investigators.

He was taken into custody. During this, “he admitted to being the sole author of the shooting, which he placed in the context of a brawl that took place earlier in the evening and explained that he defended himself against his attackers,” indicated the public prosecutor of Orléans in her press release.

After the suspect was placed in police custody, the magistrate added that “the progress of the investigation led to the abandonment of the aggravating circumstance of premeditation”.
