This Tuesday, October 1, the trial of the gendarme suspected of having involuntarily killed the young Islander Loïc Louise begins before the Orléans criminal court, almost eleven years ago.

On the evening of November 2, 2013, Loïc Louise celebrated his cousin’s birthday in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, in the department. The young man, originally from Saint-Benoît, then alcoholic, had gotten into a fight with his cousins.

The police went to the scene and a gendarme tried to subdue the 21-year-old student using a taser. Loïc Louise died shortly after at the Orléans hospital.

In the absence of a link between the Taser shot and the death of the young Reunion Islander, the investigation was closed seven months after the tragedy. At the time, the prosecutor indicated that the gendarme had ” followed the procedure “, the latter having received training for the use of this weapon.

A few months later, the public prosecutor at the time finally opened a judicial investigation into involuntary homicide. In June 2019, the gendarme was placed under the status of assisted witness.

In October 2023, a new twist: the soldier is indicted for manslaughter. Initially scheduled for April 2, 2024, the trial before the Orléans Criminal Court is postponed at the request of the civil party. It will therefore be held this Tuesday 1is october.

Satisfied that a trial will finally be held, Loïc Louise’s family is still waiting to understand. ” I would like to see this person and hear him. He needs to tell me exactly what he did to my son. “, confided Berthe Louise last October.

Under what conditions did the events occur? Eleven years later, the trial will have to determine whether the taser shot received by Loïc Louise was the cause of his death.

The autopsy revealed that the young Benedictine had died of suffocation. ” Medically, the death has no direct link with the use of the electric weapon “, indicated the public prosecutor in 2013. The latter specified that he remained “ to check whether the shot was fully operational and what was the intensity and duration of the electrical impulse “.
