It is still too early to know if the Cupertino company will maintain its position, but we can already see a trend emerging regarding theadoption of the latest iPhone models to date, the iPhone 15, compared to that of their predecessors, the iPhone 14.

The latest figures from the CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners) reveal that in the 1st quarter of 2024, Apple did not sell as many iPhone 15s as 14s over the same period last year in the USA. The high-end models are almost identical. Respectively 22 and 24% for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, 22 and 23% for their counterparts this year. For the CIRP, it is a “continuation of the trend of the last two quarters, as the cheapest current models give up their share to older models“. The organization believes that other factors also come into play.

In fact, he recalls that “[…] improvements in recent years have been more marginal. This makes the latest base iPhone 15 even less distinctive. We also suspect some economic pressure to reduce spending, where possible, and a generational trend toward sustainability and away from [l’envie de] always wanting something new. Together, these factors have put pressure on the newer base model and increased demand for the one- or two-year-old alternatives“.
