What are the animals and plants who populate Seine-et-Marne? If some people do not necessarily ask this question, theAgglomeration Melun Seine Valley wants to find the answer.

L’biodiversity atlasit’s a new project which has been in place for some time within the local authority, and they count include citizens.

What purpose ?

Already nicknamed Abi (Atlas of intercommunal biodiversity), this plan aims to preservation of biodiversity wants to be “a real strategic initiative“. The Agglomeration wishes to bring together local stakeholders around a collection of knowledge.

Elected officials, businesses, citizens, schools and even associations will be called upon to help them to raise awareness to the major issues linked to biodiversity, but also “recognize, preserve and restore the heritage fauna and floraas well as their living, reproduction and circulation environments,” indicates the Agglomeration.

Planned then on three yearsit will lead to a environmental action plan and which will be supported by the entire community. But above all it will be necessary:

  • Explore the richness of local biodiversity, identify fragile and threatened environments requiring protection, and share this information with local stakeholders.
  • Discover the environmental issues of our territory and propose preservation actions based on natural solutions.
  • Highlight the natural spaces of our living area, encourage green tourism.
  • To raise awareness all stakeholders, including the population and elected officials, to the importance of biodiversity.
  • Integrate biodiversity in land use planning policies and in each planned project.

Project stages and participation

This atlas will follow a very precise path to ensure its success. Initially, it will be an inventory carried out with the support of naturalist data and dedicated expeditions. A cartography will also be planned in parallel in order to be reused in future projects.

In a third time, an inventory of the situation with the dangers and the assets of the territory which can influence biodiversity, particularly in these current or future projects.

From there will then arise publications and reports to arrive at the fifth point: “The definition of a level of ambition and major objectives in order to protect, restore And improve the biodiversity of the territory”, supports the Agglomeration.

And to follow this pattern, residents of the city are welcome! Thanks to several animations and observations, three types of inventories: birds, insects, plants.

The workshops will first take place indoors then in nature. (May 15), Dammarie-lès-Lys (June 12) and Boissise-la-Bertrand (June 19) will be the playgrounds for these observations.
