Table tennis. In the wake of the Villefranche ping-pong club, which has experienced rapid growth in recent months, a table tennis center will be created at the start of the next school year within the Saint-Joseph school complex, with Jean-Christophe Batut at its helm. head.

Villefranche, land of table tennis players. “When I was around fifteen years old, I remember that there was a nice club in Villefranche, with a high level.” So it was more than three decades ago. A club where Jean-Christophe Batut cut his teeth, and where table tennis had nothing to envy of other disciplines. Today, after having experienced ups and downs, the Villefranche club, the PPCV, is booming. The number of licensees is exploding (with 82 licensees, the PPCV is the largest in the department), and the progression is dazzling, at all levels. success that we owe to Jean-Christophe Batut, back at the club for two and a half years, but also to the many volunteers who support him including his right-hand man Sébastien Roy, “without whom “it would be nothing ” : “We are a very united team, and it is certain that with this state of mind, we move forward more quickly. This is what makes us strong today. “A great dynamic which could well continue, with, in the same spirit, the creation of a table tennis center in St Jo from the next school year. The idea had been running through his head for several months, with the objective to help around ten young table tennis players, from the region or elsewhere, progress through several training sessions per week: “I needed new motivation. I proposed this project to the director of the establishment, Mr. Raynaud, and I thank him for trusting me. It’s great, we will be able to have very good working conditions, in a brand new gymnasium. And the establishment has already purchased ten tables.” A Pole which already bears its name, the “Ping Académie Villefranchois”.

8 to 10 young people hoped for

Initially, Jean-Christophe Batut, who will be at the head of the pole, hopes to welcome between 8 and 10 players: “Afterwards, people will join, a mental trainer, boosters or other coaches of a very good level… The objective is to offer a fun project to young people, while helping them progress more quickly. “Three training sessions of almost two hours will be on the program each week (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays), knowing that they will be able to play alongside group 1 of the PPCV on afternoons.”Getting involved in a Pole requires a certain investment. And you have to know how to manage fatigue, classes… It’s not always easy for young people. But sport allows them to learn a lot of things. “In order to reach as many people as possible, Jean-Christophe will even offer an hour of table tennis to the other students of the establishment during the week. In short, nothing but happiness for this”keen “table tennis:”I will try to do the best, and allow young people to advance in the discipline.” And who knows, perhaps he will have the pleasure of training a future great in the discipline, like the Lebrun brothers or Simon Gauzy, table tennis players who are putting French table tennis back in the spotlight…

> Please note that an information meeting led by Jean-Christophe Batut will be offered on Monday May 13 at the Tricot gymnasium (empty room) at 8 p.m. The opportunity to present the project, open to young people from 6th to 12th grade, from Saint-Joseph or elsewhere.
