The passage of the Olympic flame Sunday May 12 in Miramas will be the occasion for a major sports festival, organized from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Miramas Métropole stadium.

Designated in June 2023 among the 7 towns of the department having the privilege of being on the course, the city pulled out all the stops, materializing its commitment to the Olympics. Let’s not forget that the rail city is a camp of preparation base for all Kenyan athletes qualified for the Games.

It is in the magnificent Miramas Métropole Stadium that the last torch relay will take place.

The program for May 12 will be copious. What will be the highlights?

Before the flame leaves

  • For the public of Boulevard de l’Olympie

    8:30 a.m. > 10:10 a.m.: opening to the public along the boulevard.
    10:10 a.m. > 10:30 a.m.: The “Nuits Métis” World Music Festival offers strolls
    on the boulevard “La Famille Géant declares its flame”, a unique spectacle of more than
    70 artists under the musical direction of Franco-Kenyan musician Edward Kamau.

  • For the Stadium audience

    8:30 a.m.: opening to the public, free seating upon reservation required. Exhibition: restitution of educational projects preparatory to the ceremony.
    9:40 a.m. > 9:55 a.m. – Launch of the Festival of Eloquence by the Educational City of Miramas.
    10:00 a.m. > 10:10 a.m. – Torch relay for young athletes (with USEP and 300 school students
    primary) on the Stadium track.
    10:10 a.m. > 10:20 a.m. – A collective flashmob-style school choreography created by the choreographers of Club Attitude, 1001 danses and Let’s dance.
    10:25 a.m. > 10:35 a.m. – Choir of 350 singers (275 schoolchildren + 75 adults from the Nuances vocal group, MJC, SNCF and Entressen choir).

  • Simultaneously on the track:

    4 groups of dancers (classical, contemporary, breakdance and ballroom dance).
    10:35 a.m. > 10:45 a.m. – Professional circus show, acrobatic performances in the heart of the track and in the stands.




    10:55 a.m. – entry of the flame into the Stadium enclosure with music and the colors of
    2 “tifos” in the stands. The flame will be carried by Miramasséan Michel Bertrand, a 79-year-old former marathon runner. Live broadcast of images from the Stadium on a giant screen outside.
    11:05 a.m. > 11:15 a.m. – Protocol speeches.
    11:15 a.m. >11:35 a.m. – “La Famille Géant declares its love” stroll by Nuits Métis which takes the public outside the Stadium for a colorful finale, thanks to a colored powder cannon.
    11:40 a.m. > End of the Olympic Torch relay ceremony and launch of the “2024 Sports Festival” until 7:00 p.m. with more than 70 events from Miramas sports associations and clubs.

Six other cities, six programs

The Olympic flame will arrive early in the morning on the beach. Breakdancing, climbing wall, inflatable jousting, rugby, rowing and kayak races… the city center will be decorated in the colors of the Games until 4 p.m. with a large Olympic village. A concert by the group “Bande à part” will be the highlight of the morning on the solarium.

Aix en Provence

(Provisional time for the passage of the flame: 11:25 a.m. > 12:50 p.m. The flame will first pass through emblematic sports sites: Creps and the Ruocco stadium. It will continue its route at Place Romée de Villeneuve and Esplanade Mozart and will finish its course on the course Mirabeau. The route will be punctuated with shows, activities and entertainment on each of the sites crossed.

Napoléon where a large Olympic village will be set up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Flame football”, horse riding, beach boxing and beach soccer, dance, yoga, boules competition and other activities will punctuate this festive day.

Parades, dancing, singing, music and sporting activities, the festivities will start around 1:30 p.m. around the port of the Etang de l’Olivier where nautical activities will be offered: jousting, rowing, kayaking, rowing and sailing. from 3:45 p.m., the Olympic flame will travel a little over 3 km, from the Cavalloni gymnasium to the Town Hall where the party will be in full swing.

From 10 a.m., Eygalières will have its own opening ceremony with a flashmob presented by 150 children while waiting for the arrival of the torch. From the village center to the stadium via the Maison des Sports and the nursing home, the whole village will be celebrating with numerous activities until the early evening.

Animations on Romanism at the ancient theater, Camargue traditions on Place de la République, visual arts at the Luma Tower, the emblematic sites will vibrate to the rhythm of the Games, while a large Olympic village will be set up on the Esplanade de Gaulle. The flame will leave from the Arles Antique Departmental Museum and will end its journey on the quay of May 8, 1945 with the lighting of the basin in the early evening, before passing the baton to Montpellier.
