Around 10:30 a.m., the umbrellas gathered at Place Travot in Cholet (Maine-et-Loire). On the occasion of May 1st, around a hundred people responded to the call from the CGT and Solidaires unions.

Parade canceled due to weather

A much smaller mobilization than that experienced last year. In a context of pension reform, 2,600 people took to the streets during this International Workers’ Day. If the unions were expecting a more modest assembly, the rain was not on the agenda. Faced with unpredictable weather, the union organizations preferred to cancel the parade.

The CGT and Solidaires have formed a united front “against austerity”for employment and wages or even peace. “People are finding it more and more difficult to make ends meet. Employees are increasingly insecure. In Choletais, salary increases are not at the level of employee productivity and profitability”points out Thibaud Maurille, general secretary of the local CGT union.

A gathering without the presence of the CFDT and FO.
