Algeria: Live chicken prices stabilize

Live chicken prices are stabilizing in the wholesale and retail markets. For two weeks, prices have remained unchanged, which reassures both poultry farmers and consumers.

Indeed, wholesale chicken prices are being negotiated this Sunday, September 29, in henhouses, between 305 and 330 DA per kg. A range that has not changed for two weeks.

Prices are lower in the East and Center of the country where wholesale prices do not exceed 320 DA per kg. In the West, prices reach 330 DA per kg in Oran in particular.

In the retail market, prices are also stable. A Kg of live chicken is displayed between 340 and 370 Da per Kg. A level which suits the consumer as well as the poultry farmer who can recover as well as the losses incurred during the summer due to the collapse of prices and the mortality due to heatwaves.

In butchers and plucked chicken sales outlets, prices are between 360 and 450 DA per kg.

This stability can be explained by the arrival of quantities of frozen chicken imported from Brazil on the market. A chicken whose price is set by the State. It is displayed at 295 DA per kg. The injection of significant quantities into the market has stopped the rise in prices.

The end of the heatwave season has also motivated a number of poultry farmers to resume activity.
