Relief for travelers from western Paris. The State will cover 50% of the toll price for the A14 motorway – operated by SAPN, a subsidiary of the Sanef group – for travelers (provided there are at least two on board) during the closure of a section of the’A13 near Paris, Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete announced to AFP on Tuesday.

The measure will apply “until the date of return to service of theA13 » said the minister. The technical details of the reduction have not yet been specified for motorists.

Gradual reopening of the A13 from May 11

A portion of theA13 – free motorway – located between the Paris ring road and the A86 has been closed since April 18 for safety reasons following the discovery of a transverse crack in the Saint-
Cloud. It must reopen gradually, from Saturday May 11 in the Province-Paris direction. No date has yet been given for the Paris-Province direction.

Regarding the cause of this crack, The Parisian reports that work as part of the construction of a museum could be the cause.

While waiting for the road to reopen, the A14 – toll motorway – serves as an alternative route for certain motorists. But the normal rate is 10.60 euros high (6.40 euros from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays). The State therefore wanted to set up a financial incentive for carpooling to reduce costs for certain travelers. For light vehicles carrying at least 2 passengers the toll will thus be reduced from €10.60 to €5.40. The system will be put in place from May 6 and will be valid, during peak hours, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Province/Paris direction and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Paris/Province direction, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. , specifies the press release.

Three carpooling platforms (BlaBlaCar, Karos and Ynstant) “are committed to making promotional offers, up to and including free”added Patrice Vergriete. “We really wanted to encourage carpooling because it’s a solution to today’s problem”he argued.

Free access ruled out to avoid congestion on the road

Making the A14 free was not the solution chosen. The ministry justifies its choice in its press release. “Studies carried out by state services have concluded that making the A14 motorway free of charge would contribute to degrade the situation, by worsening the saturation of the structure as well as by extending the congestion zones on both sides. Optimization of the use of road infrastructure, in addition to changes in the behavior of motorists, must be sought as a priority. »
