Ozempic microdosing is gaining popularity: here’s what experts think

More and more people are taking small doses of Ozempic in an effort to lose weight in the United States, which is not necessarily a bad thing according to American doctors.

“It’s essentially a tailored approach to dosing Ozempic to meet the needs of the individual. Now what concerns us is when it happens without any guidance from a health professional,” Dr. Britta Reierson, a board-certified family physician in the United States and specialist in family medicine, told USA Today. obesity.

Thus some specialists believe that “micro-dosing” can be beneficial for maintaining weight after having lost it thanks to the standard dose.

“You don’t have to stop taking the medications. It is enough to maintain the pressure on the gas, even in small quantities, and the weight loss will be maintained,” underlined the American neurosurgeon Brett Osborn, who compares everything to driving a car: at the beginning you put more pressure on the gas, then we partially release the pressure when we reach the desired speed.

But why this popularity for microdosing? According to Dr. Aria Vazirnia, American dermatological surgeon, this phenomenon is explained in particular by the fact that this technique is increasingly praised on social networks.

“I think a lot of it has to do with social media. It’s related to the celebrity scene… People talk about it on podcasts. So there’s a lot of interest in that,” he said.

Added to this is also a certain shame linked to taking weight-loss medication.

“Often in weight management there is so much stigma and bias on both the clinician side and the patient side that people’s brains often want to try to tell them that they can game the system. They’ll feel better about the fact that they’re on a medication if they’re on a lower dose and, really, what we need to get to the root of is making that patient feel whole from the start , that there is nothing wrong with using a medication,” explained Dr. Alexandra Sowa, a specialist in obesity medicine.
