A 15-year-old teenager was indicted on Monday April 29 for “murder” and imprisoned, two days after the stabbing murder of young Matisse in Châteauroux. A fight between the two young boys who knew each other was the cause of this tragedy.
A 15-year-old teenager was indicted on Monday April 29 for “murder” and imprisoned. His mother, aged 37, was indicted for “intentional violence” against a “vulnerable person”. The information communicated by the Public prosecutor in Bourges, Céline Visiedo, who took over the case, indicates that the latter would have “slapped the victim”, Matisse, 16 years old. The minor and his mother are both of Afghan nationality and legally resident on French soil, according to the magistrate.

The two teenagers knew each other
Matisse and the suspect “knew each other and had insulted each other before” the fatal brawl that occurred on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. near the Saint-Denis district, in Châteauroux, a peaceful town of some 43,000 inhabitants, according to the magistrate.
According to the suspect, during this confrontation, Matisse punched him, causing “total incapacity for work estimated at three days”, according to the words of the prosecution taken up by Republican Echo. “Taken by anger”, the suspect returned home to take “a knife blade” and allegedly stabbed the victim “several times before fleeing”, according to the same Source. A version corroborated by the suspect’s brother, according to our colleagues at Parisian : “My brother couldn’t stand being beaten by Matisse. His nose bled and it made him crazy.”
The victim died due to “several puncture wounds”, one of which “hit directly the heart”, said the Public Prosecutor. The latter underlines that “The mother of the minor, who followed him, in turn slapped the victim”.

The suspect, who had no convictions on his criminal record, had however just been indicted on April 22 for “violent theft in a meeting” by the Châteauroux investigating judge. He was placed under judicial supervision as part of this procedure.
An altercation without a religious character
The brawl had “nothing to do with Islamism, there is no religious character”, assured a Source close to the investigation interviewed by AFP. The fact that the minor is of Afghan nationality has nevertheless led several figures from the right and the extreme right to denounce the government’s “migratory policy”.

At the RTL microphone, Matisse’s father, Christophe Marchais, warned: “Let’s not mix everything up. Be careful of all the right-wing parties or elsewhere who appropriate this kind of thing.” The prefect of Indre, Thibault Lanxade, called “everyone for calm and dignity”, according to a press release from the prefecture, specifying that “the Châteauroux police force remains widely deployed […] to ensure calm.”
A tragedy in a residential area
The Saint-Denis district is “a classic residential district”, which is not “classified as a priority policy”, underlined Mayor Gil Avérous.
On Monday, residents and relatives placed white roses at the corner of the street where Matisse was taken in by emergency services, as well as in front of the victim’s father’s restaurant, noted an AFP correspondent.
“It’s nice, it shows us that a lot of people support us and loved ‘Matou’, Matisse,” his father breathes.
