All over the world, men and women are mobilizing to protect endangered animal species and ecosystems. They all fight courageously, sometimes at the risk of their lives.
In South Africa, Dumi Zwane and her team are on a mission to rescue a black rhino. Its horn is worth a fortune on the black market. This is a major operation. The objective is to set up a reproduction program in a protected site. And this female will be the centerpiece of the device. Dumi Zwane will do everything possible to move her. It weighs more than a ton and to transport it, the team has no choice but to transport it by air.
To save animals from extinction, we must first save the habitats where they live. But wild spaces are disappearing more and more. The Amazon rainforest is the most diverse terrestrial ecosystem on the planet, but it is threatened by human activities. Alessandra Korap is one of the leaders of the Munduruku. For millennia, this tribe has watched over part of the Amazon forest. But now, the forest is fragmented and victim of mining, the timber industry, and especially agriculture. On this front which continues to advance, the Munduruku are on the front line.
Over the past ten years in Brazil, more than 300 people have been murdered. The tribes demonstrated for ten days against proposed laws that seriously threatened the forest. It is the largest demonstration ever organized in Brazil by indigenous peoples.
