Let us specify that in a letter sent on July 31 by the Sovereign to the President of the French Republic, King Mohammed VI had formulated an official invitation to Emmanuel Macron.

The Moroccan people and their forces understand the importance of this decision, which comes from a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, an intimate knowledge of the past and present of North Africa and a privileged witness to the evolution of this regional dispute, added King Mohammed VI, stressing that thanks to the positive dynamics experienced by bilateral relations, “promising prospects are opening up for our two countries in many strategic sectors, making it possible to strengthen the exceptional partnership built, for decades, on friendship and trust».

«The present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty»

The royal message was a response to a letter addressed by the French President to the Sovereign on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Feast of the Throne and in which he officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty», as indicated on Tuesday July 30 the royal cabinet in a press release.

In this same message, the President of the French Republic assures the King of “the intangibility of the French position on this national security issue for the Kingdom» and that his country “intends to act consistently with this position nationally and internationally».

To this end, President Emmanuel Macron affirms that “for France, autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the framework within which this question must be resolved. Our support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007 is clear and constant», adding that this plan “now constitutes the only basis for achieving a political, just, lasting and negotiated solution, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council».
