A former member of the Rouge et Or football team is sentenced to six months in prison for possessing child pornography

Judge Sandra Rioux imposed the sentence requested by the prosecution against Maxime Boivin, the minimum sanction provided for in the Criminal Code for such an offense.

The 20-year-old’s lawyer challenged the constitutionality of the minimum sentence, calling it totally disproportionate for his client.

The judge, however, rejected the arguments of the defense who had proposed sentencing the footballer to 60 days in prison, to be served on weekends.

The President of the Court believes that Boivin deserved a longer period of detention to deter anyone from committing a similar crime.

Girls aged 5 to 8

The resident of Quebec, previously without a criminal record, was arrested in June 2022 following a denunciation by the social network Snapchat.

The defensive lineman had three video files in his possession showing girls between the ages of five and eight having sex with adults.

At the end of his prison sentence, Maxime Boivin will have to serve two years’ probation. The judge also restricts his use of the internet since he will not be able to access social networks.

Forced out

His name will also be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years. However, Maxime Boivin’s name no longer appears in the Rouge et Or lineup, with whom he was to start the season in 2023 if he had not been injured.

The organization finally expelled him before he even took part in a , after learning through a media outlet of the existence of his criminal record.
