Construction of a building with 100 social and affordable housing units for seniors

The of Drummondville is delighted to be one of ten Quebec cities to welcome a building of 100 social and affordable housing units for seniors as part of an innovative multi-party partnership initiated by the organization Mission Unitaînés and endorsed by the government of Quebec.

“I am very proud that we were able to once again demonstrate agility, flexibility and speed to see this project come to fruition here,” commented the mayor of Drummondville, Stéphanie Lacoste. This building fits in every way with the aims of our Housing Policy, and corresponds to the vision that we share with our privileged partners in the housing field, such as the Drummond Housing and Innov Habitat Drummond. Faced with the crisis, we are not remaining idle, and this project is eloquent proof of that. »

Remember that the six-story building should welcome its first tenants in 2026. The monthly rent will be set at approximately $595 for a studio and $900 for a two-bedroom unit.

This project will see the light of day thanks to the Fund to Accelerate Housing Construction from the Government of Canada and Quebec, which is investing a total of $23.5 million. Added to this investment is the donation of the land targeted by the City of Drummondville, and an exceptional philanthropic donation from Luc Maurice, president of the board of directors of the Mission Unitaînés organization.

“Thinking outside the box is a path that we favor, and that’s why we immediately raised our hands to welcome this investment in Drummondville. Ideally located, close to shops and services accessible by public or active transportation, this building will allow seniors to enjoy the quality of life that we have to offer in Drummondville while staying in worthy apartments and, above all, at reasonable prices,” insisted Ms. Lacoste, stressing that other investments in social housing could be announced soon.

“It is a great pride to see projects from our 2022-2030 Social and Community Housing Development Plan come to fruition,” added municipal councilor Isabelle Duchesne, delegate of the municipal council to the board of directors of the Office of Drummond dwelling. We are in action and I would like to congratulate all those involved in this innovative partnership. »
