She is one of the first women to have obtained a black belt in karate in France, in the 1970s. Yvette (the first name has been changed), 71 years old today, ocean eyes and gray hair, recounts her great era on the tatami mats. The natural joker of this “full-time artist” fades behind the dramas she confides to us: for four years, her trainer harassed and raped her. She tells us:
“As a child, I don’t have any happy memories. My mother was an alcoholic. She only had me to benefit from benefits. She keeps repeating it to me, insulting me, hitting me: “You’re ugly, you’re useless.” It is no exaggeration to say that I lived my childhood like Cosette.
