Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was organized in Hanoi on Thursday evening by the Vietnam Tourism Association to mark World Tourism Day (September 27).

The event featured performances reflecting Vietnam’s popular culture, which is expected to become a source of cultural tourism product development.

Every year, the global tourism sector organizes various activities on September 27 to raise public awareness about the importance of tourism for the socio-economic development of countries.

This year, the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has chosen the theme “Tourism and Peace” for World Tourism Day with the aim of highlighting the vital role of this sector in promoting peace and understanding between nations and cultures, and in supporting reconciliation processes.

In particular, UN Tourism emphasizes the role of young people, noting that by investing in youth, providing them with education and training opportunities and encouraging their active engagement in tourism, their potential could be capitalized to promote social change and peace.

In Vietnam, tourism has acquired sufficient conditions to assert its status as an important economic sector.

During the first eight months of 2024, the country welcomed 11.4 million international arrivals, an increase of 45.8% compared to the same period last year and 1% compared to the same period of 2019. Domestic travelers numbered 89.5 million. Total tourism revenue is estimated at $23.8 billion. -VNA
