impressive damage in Beauvechain this morning (video)

Very violent winds blew across the Beauvechain entity on Thursday evening around 6:00 p.m.

At Rue de Wavre, a tornado destroyed roofs and tore down electrical poles. However, electricity was restored during the night.

The municipal phase has also been activated and a call center has been opened

“This happened over a distance of between 50 and 100 meters. The emergency services are on site and we have opened a crisis center at the municipal administration,” explained mayor Carole Ghiot to the Belga agency.

“For security reasons, traffic remains prohibited on rue de Wavre (portion between avenue des Combattants and rue Marcoen) and rue de Louvain. A diversion has been put in place via La Bruyère. », indicated the municipal authorities in a press release released shortly before two o’clock in the morning.

“Six families must be rehoused, but most of the affected residents prefer to initially be hosted by relatives,” the mayor further clarified in Belga.

In Flanders too, the tornado caused damage. The municipalities of Zoutleeuw and Geetbets were affected. There were no injuries, but the material damage was significant. The roofs of several houses were torn off.
