The former German midfielder Toni Kroos recalled that, “before signing for Real Madrid in 2014”, the Bayern Munich player at the time “agreed with Manchester United”.

In his weekly podcast with his brother, ex-footballer Felix Kroos, ‘Einfach mal luppen’, he revealed that the reason why his transfer to the Red Devils failed was the dismissal of Scottish coach David Moyes, Alex Ferguson’s replacement on the bench at Old Trafford, and his replacement by the Dutchman Louis Van Gaal.

“David Moyes, with whom I was still sitting on my couch in Munich, was fired. It was very nice for him to be sitting at our house with his wife. Then they hired Van Gaal and we both politely declined“, he explained.

Instead of joining Manchester United, Toni Kroos joined the Real Madridwhere he competed more than 400 matches in ten seasons and won 23 titles, including five Champions Leagues, before retiring at the end of last season. Kroos has become a legend at Real Madrid. In fact, the team even misses him at the start of the season where, despite the results, the team’s play has not really progressed.
