A decline which decelerates in the second quarter of 2024

In the second quarter of 2024, the prices of old housing in decreased again over a quarter, but at a less sustained rate: – 0.5%, after – 1.5% in the first quarter of 2024 and – 1.8% in the fourth. quarter 2023, according to the Notaries-Insee Index.

– 4.9% over one year

Over one year, prices of old housing fell for the fourth consecutive quarter on the national territory, with -4.9% in the second quarter of 2024, after -5.2% in the first quarter of 2024 and -3.9% in the fourth quarter 2023.

Prices decrease by -5% for apartments and -4.9% for houses.

Same findings in the provinces

In the provinces, in the second quarter of 2024, the one-quarter drop in prices of old housing eases to -0.4%, after -1.3% in the first quarter of 2024 and -1.8% in the fourth quarter of 2023.

But over one year, they also fell sharply: – 4.3% in the second quarter of 2024, as in the previous quarter.

The fall in prices continues at the same rate for houses (-4.4%, after -4.4%), as well as for apartments (-3.8%, after -3.9%).

A sales volume which is also falling

At the end of June 2024, the number of transactions carried out in the old property over the last 12 months is estimated at 792,000, according to the Notaires-INSEE Index, after 825,000 at the end of March 2024 and 872,000 at the end of December 2023.

A decline which began at the end of September 2021.
