The great performance of the day is to the credit of Arthur Fils! The Frenchman qualified for the second round of the Tokyo tournament, dismissing the American Taylor Fritz, seeded n°1 (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), Thursday morning, at the ‘Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo.

After having already beaten Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Zverev, Arthur Fils won this Thursday the fifth victory of his career against a member of the Top 10 in the world, for six defeats.

The massacre continues for the participants of the Laver Cup. After Frances Tiafoe and Stefanos Tsitsipas a little earlier in the day, it is the turn of Taylor Fritz to take the door in Tokyo, for his first match on the ATP circuit since his US Open final.
