Since today, the new exclusive of The Legend of Zelda saga is available on Nintendo Switch. Echoes of Wisdom is also the first game in the saga to be directed by a woman.

Only a few days ago, the developers let it be understood that the studio behind this game was partner Grezzo. And for the first time in the saga The Legend of Zeldait was a woman who made the game. It is Tomomi Sano.My role was to manage and coordinate the production of the project, suggest adjustments, then verify the result to ensure that the gameplay created by Grezzo was in line with The Legend of Zelda series.” she says on the official Nintendo website.

A name already known at Nintendo

Even if Tomomi Sano is the first woman to be the director of a game in the saga, this former graphic director does not arrive from nowhere. In fact, she joined the team responsible for the Zelda franchise in the 2010s. She begins by coordinating the company’s relations with the Grezzo studio in order to ensure good development. of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, then The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask in 2015. She also worked on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and the Mario & Luigi series.

A game like no other

This is a first in 38 years for the Zelda saga. If female figures in Nintendo games are sometimes limited to the rank of distressed (or secondary) characters, Princess Zelda deviates from this rule. At the helm for almost 20 years, Japanese producer Eiji Aonuma explained that he was waiting for the proposal “that would really do justice to Princess Zelda”. He believes that “it’s the perfect game for her” in an interview published on the Nintendo website.

The project was initially launched as something much closer to a “Zelda Maker” in the style of Super Mario Maker, intended to give players the ability to create and share their custom dungeons. From this idea, the developers wondered if they could enable the ability to “copy and paste”. Which gave birth to the magic wand, available in the game, which can clone objects and enemies.
