It is 7:30 am on Monday, September 15 when the agents of the Interdepartmental Directorate of Western Roads (DIRO) are called to the N12, at the exit of the Rennes ring road, for a dead wild boar present on the roads. Two orange trucks, “arrows” (in reference to the luminous arrows present on the back of the trucks, editor’s note) arrive and quickly stop on the left lane to intervene. That’s when a car hits the first arrow. DIRO published the video of the accident this Thursday.

“We’re not idiots!”
Johan Ruault is one of the agents who intervenes that morning. “We were hit as soon as we arrived, we barely had time to get out of the vehicle.” One of his colleagues has time to pass the safety barrier before the impact. This is the first time that Johan Ruault has been involved in an accident like this. He is in the most advanced truck. “It’s really a bang, with a lot of dust,” he says. A few seconds later, he and his colleagues head towards the vehicle to inquire about the health of the people in the car. No one is seriously injured. “We were able to chat a little with the driver, he remembers. He saw on the light panels that there was an obstacle in front of him, but he didn’t pay attention.”
Faced with this behavior, He warns motorists about this type of behaviour. “We’re not idiots!” During the following interventions, he confided that he was afraid to stop and get off. “You trust people when you do this job. You could get knocked down at any moment.” It therefore encourages drivers to be careful when seeing the arrows on the side of the road. “We must slow down when we are seen, and move as far away from the intervention zone as possible.”
