As pre-orders for the PS5 Pro went live this Thursday, September 26, 2024, Scalpers quickly ruined the mood by buying up a good portion of the available stock.. In just a few hours, listings for the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition appeared on eBay at prices well above retail prices. Limited stock of the special edition has led to high demand, leading to skyrocketing prices on resale platforms.
As a reminder, scalping (or reseller) is an English term that describes people who buy products in limited quantities, such as game consoles or concert tickets, with the aim of immediately reselling them at a much higher price. While the 30th anniversary edition is normally sold at €1099, the ads display prices ranging from €3000 to €7000On the American side, we even see offers reaching $10,000.
The same goes for the DualSense controller 30th anniversary limited edition.although there seems to be more stock compared to the previous case. However, we are already seeing resale listings showing prices between €200 and €300, while the recommended price is €79.99. The same goes for the classic PS5 Pro, which is no longer available for pre-order on the PlayStation Direct page, although it will be available at other retailers (like the DualSense collector today) from the beginning of October.
As with the PS5’s pandemic release, scalpers have ruined the chances of fans eager to acquire a rather nice collectible, let’s face it. This is all the more frustrating with this 30th anniversary edition of the PS5 Pro, which is already not accessible to everyone at its recommended price.
