Assassin’s Creed Shadows Ubisoft’s The Game has been pushed back to February 2025, it was announced Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled to be released in November.

In a message shared on social media, Ubisoft’s Marc-Alexis Côté said the teams realized more time was needed to “refine and improve the experience, and to further develop some of our flagship features.”

He thus confirms that the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows will instead be released on February 14th, on multiple platforms, including Steam. Pre-orders will be refunded, and all future pre-orders will receive the game’s first expansion for free.

This is the message that was spread on social networks, but there was also an update of Ubisoft’s financial objectives for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. In this document, we learn that the launch of Star Wars Outlaws influenced the decision to postpone Assassin’s Creed Shadows:

“Although the game [Assassin’s Creed Shadows] be complete, the lessons learned from the release of Star Wars Outlaws have led us to grant additional time to further refine the title. This will allow the franchise’s biggest installment to fully deliver on its promise, including fulfilling the promise of our dual-player adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different playstyles.”

So what happened with Star Wars Outlaws? According to Ubisoft, the launch was “weaker” than expected; below expectations. The reviews are still pretty good, with a score of 76 on Metacritic.

In this financial update, Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and CEO, said: “Our second quarter performance did not meet our expectations, which prompted us to address this issue quickly and decisively, with an even greater emphasis on a player-centric and customer-focused approach. gameplayand an unwavering commitment to the long-term value of our brands.”

Finally, Guillemot responded to some of the criticism: “Finally, let me address some of the polarizing comments around Ubisoft lately. I want to reiterate that we are an entertainment company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push a specific ‘agenda.’ We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will finally be released on February 14, 2025 on PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and iPad.
