Raphaël Varane announced the end of his career on Instagram this morning.

Announced yesterday by Le Parisien, Raphaël Varane announced this morning his end of career. The central defender with 93 caps for the Blues says goodbye to professional football after a succession of physical problems after his signing for Como this summer. Having played for then Real Madrid and finally Manchester United, Varane has only played one match with Como in the Italian Cup.

Raphaël Varane, a bumpy end to his career

The 31-year-old has seen his playing time drop considerably over the past two years. Plagued by injury concerns, Raphael Varane had decided to end his international career after the 2022 World Cup. He already explained in an interview the impact of high level on the body and mental health, describing it as “a washing machine”. Describing himself as a great football fan, the 2018 world champion has seen his body weaken in recent seasons with 14 missed matches last season.

Having arrived in Como this summer to find a new challenge, Raphael Varane has only played one match, which he came out of injured.
