The Ministry of Commerce has decided to set the maximum prices for the sale of potatoes intended for consumption. And this, since September 23, 2024 and as follows: the kilo of sale in warehouses is set at 1,350 dt, that of wholesale sale is set at 1,600 dt as for the sale intended for the consumer, it has been set at 1,900 dt.

The decision made public by the Minister of Commerce indicates that all actors involved in the supply of potatoes are responsible for ensuring the regular supply of the market and in sufficient quantities. They are equally called upon to respect the legal transmission of distribution channels and circuits and to deal exclusively with purchase and sale through regulated channels.

Will these new standards really be respected? Let’s hope so! Because if we look closely at the facts over the last two years, every time the price of a food product is capped by the State, the product in question disappears completely from the shelves! It then becomes the most sought-after product and the rarest commodity on the market. And if we come across it at retailers, it is sold on the sly at prices that are double or even triple the price! As long as this time we are not faced with this ugly scenario again, that potatoes continue to be sold in broad daylight and that they are actually sold at the prices indicated…
