Ghost of Yotei infiltrates State of Play in ninja style

On the one hand, it’s easy to shine given the rest of the program, but on the other hand, luckily he was there to get us out of our lethargy. Us, and the PlayStation catalog, by the way. Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to the highly acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, was revealed during the PlayStation announcement video on September 24..

Let’s not spoil our pleasure despite the general bitterness at the release of the program: we really liked Ghost of Tsushima, and we are very happy to be able to bring out the katanas again on the occasion of this new episode, which, as its name indicates, will take place at the foot of Mount Yotei (famous for its resemblance to Mount Fuji), on the island of Hokkaido.

The game will not be a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima since it will take place more than 300 years later, in 1603 when the Japanese had just landed in Hokkaido (which would not be definitively annexed by Japan until 1869). Is it possible then that we go to the other camp, and play a native character, perhaps Ainu, who will fight against the Japanese invasion? We recall that Ghost of Tsushima staged the Japanese resistance against the Mongol invasion.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much, except that this time we will play as a woman. We also note that these first images seem to borrow from the codes of the western, on the Native American side: horses, totem animals (here, a wolf…), and music to the Sergio Leone. Which would support the idea of a story of indigenous resistance to the invader, faithful to the first episode.

We hope that Ghost of Yopei will be able to renew itself by keeping the fundamentals (organic exploration, mix of infiltration and action, etc.)after a Ghost of Tsushima that was solid in its proposition, but which still lacked a bit of originality (the Spider-Man syndrome). Especially since the first one had also been marked by the little expectation it had generated, and many of us had discovered, quite surprised, a very good game! Ghost of Yotei will be released, crowned with the success of the previous opus, with a certain pressure, therefore…

Pressure also for Ubisoft, to whom players had been asking for years for an episode of Assassin’s Creed set in feudal Japan, an episode that never arrived and which Ghost of Tsushima had somewhat taken the place of. Now that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is about to be released, it will certainly suffer from the comparison, and can even less fail, especially in the situation in which Ubi finds itself, which seems to be playing a lot on Shadows, and must not welcome this announcement of Ghost of Yotei !

Still developed by Sucker Punch, Ghost of Yotei will be released exclusively on PS5 (and probably a few months later on PC) sometime in 2025.
