A guard and a prisoner affected by smoke after a fire broke out in a cell at the detention centre

A prisoner tried to set fire to his cell in the detention center on Tuesday, September 24 at around 3:15 p.m. Firefighters deployed significant resources to treat the prisoner and a guard.

Smoke coming from a cell in section D of the Roanne detention center was spotted on Tuesday, September 24 at around 3:15 p.m., allowing the alarm to be raised quickly. Guards intervened to control the start of the fire, while alerting the firefighters.

A burning blanket behind the cell door

Around twenty firefighters from the Roanne barracks finished completely containing the flames, which came from a blanket placed by the prisoner at the threshold of his cell.
