Bola.net – Enzo Maresca said that Chelsea are slowly starting to show their teeth and proving that they are serious about competing for trophies this season after beating Barrow.
Chelsea successfully crushed their opponents in the third round of the 2024/25 Carabao Cup. Playing at Stamford Bridge, Wednesday (25/9/2024) early morning WIB, the home team won with a score of 5-0.
Christopher Nkunku opened the scoring in the eighth minute and went on to complete a hat-trick, while Pedro Neto added his first Chelsea goal after Joao Felix had forced Barrow goalkeeper Paul Farman into an own goal.
Chelsea have now won seven of their last seven Carabao Cup games against fourth-tier sides, a task completed in comfortable fashion for Maresca.
Maresca made 11 changes to his side for the game against Barrow, with the coach admitting he was pleased with the performance of his players in the match.
“I am very happy with the performance, with the result,” said Maresca.
“We made a lot of changes, but the idea of the team remains the same. This must be one of our targets, no matter how we play, it is important to always maintain the identity of the team.”
Prior to this match, the only previous meeting between Chelsea and Barrow in any competition was in the 1947/48 FA Cup third round with the Blues winning 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.
“This type of game, I’m always very worried because it’s a complicated game. Football is full of games like this, where you underestimate the other team; you concede goals and miss chances.
“But tonight, I think our performance was very good and we showed our seriousness,” added Maresca.
