This Monday, September 23, the organizers of the 50th César ceremony announced that Catherine Deneuve, 80 years old, would be the president of this edition.

After Valérie Lemercier, it’s Catherine Deneuve’s turn. On Monday, September 23, the organizers of the 50th César Awards announced that the 80-year-old French actress would be the president of this edition. “Who better than an extraordinary actress to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the César Awards?”, we can read in the press release.

Appearing in over 140 films, Catherine Deneuve is one of the legends of French cinema, having worked with Jacques Demy, Luis Bunuel and François Truffaut, then André Téchiné, Lars Von Trier and François Ozon.

She maintains a steady work pace, despite a stroke in 2019, which kept her away from the sets for a few months. Recently, Catherine Deneuve was with her daughter Chiara Mastroianni on the bill for “Marcello Mio” by director Christophe Honoré, in competition at the Film Festival.

Catherine Deneuve had already had this role in 1983. It was then the 8th César ceremony, hosted by Jean-Claude Brialy.

The nominations for the 50th César Awards are to be announced on January 29. The 49th edition saw the triumph of Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” (César for best film and best director). The ceremony will be broadcast live and free on Canal + on February 28.
