Henry Guimbard, 86, died following a cycling accident on the roads of Savoie this Sunday. A former cyclist, this adopted Voironnais has, in thirty years of racing, won 180 trophies.

He began competing in 1956. Pre-selected for the amateur world championships, he finished as the best rider in the Dauphiné Savoie in 1959. In 1963, he took part in the Tour de des amateurs. Before the Grail three years later, the Tour de France with the Mercier team and alongside Raymond Poulidor.

“I started at the lowest level and managed to get into the top level through perseverance. It has nothing to do with luck!” Henry Guimbard explained to the Dauphiné Libéré in 2020.
