This is a new episode in the investigation into drug trafficking in Avallon. The city’s mayor, Jamilah Habsaoui, two of her brothers and two other suspects were placed in pre-trial detention on April 10, after the seizure of 70 kilos of cannabis resin in a home belonging to the elected official. We learned this Friday that one of Jamilah Habsaoui’s brothers was released. Benaïssa Habsaoui was released from detention last Wednesday and was placed under judicial supervision, by decision of the investigating chamber of the Court of Appeal. An information revealed by the daily Le Parisien which was confirmed to us by the public prosecutor of and by his lawyer, Maître Steeve Ruben, without further comments.

He initially denied the facts

This man is one of five people who were placed in pre-trial detention on April 10 in this investigation for “drug trafficking”. Before his indictment, he had contested the facts with which he was accused. His version would have changed somewhat during his detention. His lawyer declined to comment further.

The chosen one remains incarcerated

As for Jamilah Habsaoui, we learned yesterday that the request for release made by her lawyer was rejected. The chosen one therefore remains in pre-trial detention. As well as his brother Rachid and two other people implicated in this case.

At least 70 kg of cannabis resin were discovered at the beginning of April in Yonne, at the home of the mayor of Avallon, Jamilah Habsaoui. During these searches, in addition to the cannabis resin, around a kilo of cocaine, two gold bars and as well as 7,000 euros in cash were found by the police in this house and at the homes of other suspects.
