It is a topic that is increasingly worrying and not only in tennis. This week, before the start of the Champions League football, Manchester City midfielder Rodri railed against an increasingly dense schedule and even threatened a general strike by the players.

If the world of tennis is not there yet, Carlos Alcaraz, after his first victory in the Laver Cup (against Ben Shelton), was asked about this new scourge. After a first part of wooden language answers, the Spaniard finally expressed his fear.

“I am the kind of player who thinks that there are a lot of tournaments during the year, mandatory tournaments, and probably in the next years there will be even more. They will probably kill us in one way or another (smiles). There are a lot of injuries because of the balls, because of the calendar, because of many things,” warned the player who has played 50 matches this season (including the Olympic Games and Davis Cup), far behind Alexander Zverev and his 73 matches, according to ATP figures.

Many good players will miss tournaments because they have to think about their bodies

Alcaraz is also worried about the spectacle, fearing that many players will be forced to withdraw because of the pace imposed.

“At some point, many good players will miss tournaments because they have to think about their body. They have a family, they have many other things in life besides tennis. So they have to worry about that too,” concluded the main player in question at a press conference, contradicting his comments from a few days ago. Juan Carlos Ferrerro’s protégé declared that he “wanted to play as much as possible until the Masters.”
