A plane disappeared on Tuesday, September 17 between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, with 3 French people on board. Its wreckage has since been found, no passengers survived.

The Tuscan Alpine Rescue Service announced that it had found the plane missing since Tuesday in Italy late Thursday afternoon. The bodies of the three passengers, all French, were also found on board.

“At around 6 p.m., technicians from the Tuscan Alpine Rescue Service managed to identify (…) debris corresponding to the plane that had been missing since Tuesday afternoon,” said a statement from the Alpine Rescue Service, specifying that “a doctor confirmed the death of the three passengers.”

The search continued on Thursday in difficult weather conditions to try to find a small plane with three French people on board that had been missing since Tuesday in north-central Italy, emergency services said.

The search was focused on a mountainous area on the borders of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, more precisely between the Bocco and Uomo Morto mountains, on the Apennine chain that runs from north to south across Italy, the Alpine rescue services in charge of the search said in a brief statement.

This area was determined by tracing the cell phones of the passengers on the missing plane, a spokesperson told Agence Presse.

The rescue operations were made particularly difficult by the weather conditions in the region, which were affected by severe weather caused by the passage of Storm Boris. At an altitude of 1,700 metres, the visibility of rescuers is limited to 5 metres.

The plane took off on Tuesday from Paolucci airport near Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region, heading for France and search operations were launched on Tuesday evening.
