POLITICS – Supporter of the Manif pour tous, the LR senator of -Atlantique Laurence Garnier could become Minister of the Family in the new government. An appointment that arouses opposition

Will her name be mentioned when the new government is announced? Nothing is less certain. Laurence Garnier, LR senator from Loire-Atlantique for four years, is said to be the focal point of tensions between Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who would like to see her occupy the Ministry of the Family. The president even asked to remove her from the list, according to BFM TV.

It must be said that the profile of the leader of the opposition, aged 46, contrasts radically with the one whose post she would take: the Modem Sarah El Hairy, who resigned, who was the first openly homosexual minister to become a mother thanks to PMA for all.

A supporter of the Manif pour Tous, Laurence Garnier seems to be at odds on these issues: for example, in 2021, she opposed the creation of an offence punishing conversion therapy, practices aimed at imposing heterosexuality on LGBT people. In February 2024, she voted against the inclusion in the Constitution of the guaranteed freedom to abort: “our fellow citizens expect the government to take care of getting our country back on its feet, rather than problems that don’t exist,” she justified.
