NARRATIVE – The new Prime Minister proposed to the President on Thursday a team of 38 ministers, dominated by an unprecedented alliance between the Macronists and the right-wing LR. The Macron camp should keep Foreign Affairs and Bercy, while the Interior should fall to the head of the LR senators, Bruno Retailleau.

By bringing together the leaders of the parties of his future majority, Thursday afternoon at Matignon, Michel Barnier defined before them the outlines of the policy he intends to lead, and of the team he wants to surround himself with. An exercise that he then repeated in front of Emmanuel Macron for about an hour, at the Élysée, during an exchange described as “constructive” by the Prime Minister’s entourage. To the Head of State, he proposed “a government ready to act in the service of the French people », «which respects the balances“, his office argued.
