On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the municipality of Montjoie will open two sites to the public.
On Sunday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., it will be possible to visit the Church of the Assumption in Montjoie village and climb the steps of its emblematic bell tower.
That same day, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in Audinac, the old school will reopen its doors to present the history of the children of the troops of the Bayard Center of Audinac-les-Bains. Created in 1941 to welcome children of the troops who had finished their studies and were waiting to enlist, they entered the resistance in 1942. With the help of the Couserans smugglers, more than 60 of them took the paths to freedom to participate in the fight against the invader. Others returned to the schools of Autun, Billom, Tulle from where, with their comrades still students, they joined the maquis of Mont-Mouchet, Corrèze, Ain and Ariège. 22 children of the troops of the Audinac center were deported, shot, killed during the fighting of the maquis and the liberation. Through an exhibition of the communal collection, supplemented by documents loaned by the Maison du Chemin de la Liberté, visitors will discover this aspect of local history.
