A new Chromecast stick with Google TV 4K is coming. With it, we would have better image quality for the same price.
Google’s latest Chromecast key was released in 2020. Four years without anything new was starting to feel like a long time. Last March, it was rumored that a new version was in preparation. 9to5Google confirms these statements today, announcing the upcoming arrival of a Chromecast with Google TV 4K in a version delivered with a new remote control.
A redesigned remote control
No 8K on the program, Ultra HD definition still has a long way to go. The Chromecast casing itself would not change. The only visual difference is a rearrangement of the buttons on its remote control. The volume control that is currently on the edge would be moved to the face of the controller. In addition, a new customizable shortcut key would be introduced on its lower part.
In terms of characteristics, Google would of course evolve its product by equipping it with a more muscular configuration. As a reminder, the Chromecast with Google TV 4K works on the basis of an Amlogic S905X3 SoC (ARM Cortex-A55) coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Surely the weakest part of this product quickly limited in disk space when installing applications.
What does an AV1 compatible Chromecast mean?
The new Chromecast 2024, if we can call it that, would be equipped with an Amlogic S905X5 chip. Newer by two generations, it is engraved more finely, in 6 nm compared to 12 nm previously. It supports the AV1 codec which uses more efficient compression technology than its competitors.
The Alliance for Open Media which develops it claims that it offers a gain of 30% compared to H.265 and VP9. Better compression, therefore lighter flow, allows the AV1 to transport more information without saturating the network. Better performance, unchanged price
This new Chromecast with Google TV 4K (phew it takes a long time to write) should be released with Android 14. The previous one runs on Android 12 and there has been no update of Android TV to version 13. As for at the price of this new device well, it shouldn’t move. 9to5google talks about $49.99.
