The 9th edition of the “Favorite Monument of the French” saw the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit be crowned among the 14 monuments representing the regions of France, reported franceinfo.
In the eponymous show, broadcast on France 3 and presented by Stéphane Bern from the Château de Rambouillet (Yvelines), the French people’s favorite monument for 2024 was designated. It is the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, which won this title among fourteen monuments representing the French regions, franceinfo reported.
The circuit, which hosts car races, succeeds the fortified castle of Sedan (Ardennes). The other monuments competing this year were: the Le Corbusier Site Firminy-Vert (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes); the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans (Burgundy-Franche-Comté); the Domaine de Trévarez (Brittany); the Priory of Saint-Cosme – Residence of Ronsard (Centre-Val de Loire); the Saleccia Park (Corsica); the Sanctuary of Mont Sainte-Odile (Grand Est); the Belfry of Douai (Hauts-de-France); the Château de Fontainebleau (Île-de-France); the Lazaret of the Grande Chaloupe (La Réunion / Overseas); the Château d’Eu – Louis-Philippe Museum (Normandy); Fort Louvois (Nouvelle-Aquitaine); the Château Laurens (Occitanie); the Villa and Gardens Ephrussi de Rothschild (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur).
More than 100 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans
This ranking comes a few days before the European Heritage Days, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. For over 100 years, the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit has hosted car races, but it was not until 1923 that the first edition took place properly speaking. At the time, the race was also called the Grand Prix de Vitesse et d’Endurance de 24 Heures/Coupe Rudge-Withworth.
In a post on their Instagram page, the circuit teams thanked “all those who voted and supported (the) iconic circuit where passion and history meet”.
