Newcastle United make transfer decision on Tottenham target amid Man Utd links

As per Football Insider (h/t PSG Post), Tottenham target Adrien Rabiot has seen another Premier League contender, Newcastle United, drop out of the race for his signature. While Newcastle are often thought of as a club with the financial clout to offer lucrative contracts, they remain cautious in their dealings.

The Magpies reportedly found Rabiot’s wage demands excessive and have opted not to pursue the French midfielder further. This decision highlights their refusal to engage in overinflated transfer negotiations, despite their financial strength.

This follows recent reports indicating that Adrien Rabiot’s representatives have approached several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham. However, Spurs appear hesitant due to the Frenchman’s steep wage demands of £220,000 per week. Such a large financial outlay may be seen as excessive for Tottenham, especially given their current focus on youth development and long-term investment.

Interestingly, Rabiot previously rejected Tottenham back in 2018, dismissing them as a serious option at the time. Now, as he seeks a move to one of Europe’s top leagues, it seems Tottenham may be the ones to pass on him.

As explained in PSG Post, Adrien Rabiot caused quite a bit of turmoil for Saint-Germain fans between 2018 and 2019, largely due to the tactics his camp employed to force a free transfer. While the player has every right to honor his contract and leave on a free, it’s the manner in which they pursued this that has drawn criticism and questions.

So much so, in fact, that his departure from Juventus followed a similar path. A couple of months after his contract expired, he’s still struggling to reach an agreement with any of the clubs showing interest, including Newcastle, Manchester United, and Tottenham themselves.

We wish him all the best and hope he soon finds a new club that aligns with his ambitions. However, if the most recent reports are anything to go by, it seems unlikely this will happen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
