Arturo Vidal and Messi both played for Barça where they won collective trophies. The Chilean is one of Messi’s biggest fans.
He did not hesitate to tell the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who reacted in an unexpected way.
Vidal said: “When I arrived in Barcelona and met Messi, I told him: ‘You are the best, Messi’, and he replied:
“Here you don’t have to say I’m the best, my friend.” I replied, “Is there anyone better than you, Leo?”
The former Barca midfielder continued his remarks by saying: “Every time I played against him in the national team, I would say to my friends: ‘Nobody hurts Messi, because he is my friend and we need him at Barcelona.’
Once Messi dribbled past Vargas and it was possible to bring him down, but he let him.
He said to him, “I have instructions from your friend, I don’t want any trouble with him.” He looked at me and smiled.
