War in Ukraine: Despite Putin’s threats, this French MP wants Ukraine to be able to “strike Russian territories” with long-range missiles

Present on the Franceinfo set, this Tuesday, September 17, the deputy Benjamin Haddad (Ensemble pour la République) pleaded in favor of the Ukrainians to allow them to use long-range missiles on Russian territory.

Should the Ukrainians be allowed to use long-range missiles on Russian territory? This is a question that NATO, the United States and are clearly unable to answer.

Indeed, for several weeks, Kyiv has been seeking authorization to strike Russian territory with missiles supplied by the West, with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, going so far as to criticize the “delay” caught up in the debates on this issue.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that, “If this decision is taken, it would mean nothing less than direct involvement of NATO countries in the war in Ukraine. This would change the very nature of the conflict.”

Present on Franceinfo this Tuesday, MP Benjamin Haddad (Ensemble pour la République) returned to this problem and affirmed that “France must accept the use of long-range missiles” in Russia. He adds: “We are talking about striking Russian military bases from which missiles are launched that strike civilian infrastructure on Ukrainian territory.”

The latter specifies that this authorization must be granted to Ukrainians. “to defend against missile strikes from Russia.” He stresses, however, that it is necessary “think about the conditions of a negotiation […] To do this, we need to create a balance of power and make Russia understand that it cannot win militarily.”
