The organizers of the Film Festival have announced that they will honor a cinema legend next May. For the first time, the Honorary Palme d’Or becomes a collective prize which will be presented to Studio Ghibli.

“Coming to place itself alongside the greats of Hollywood, embodied by two wonderful storytellers, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, and a multitude of cult characters, the Japanese studio has been bringing a new wind to animated cinema for four decades”it is recalled in a press release.

Toshio Suzuki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli. :

“I am truly honored and that the studio received the Honorary Palme d’Or. I thank the Cannes Film Festival from the bottom of my heart. Forty years ago, Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and I created Studio Ghibli with the desire to bring high-level, high-quality animated films to children and adults of all ages. Today, spectators from all over the world can see our films and many visitors come to the museum. Ghibli in Mitaka and Ghibli Park to experience the world of our films for themselves We have come a long way in making Studio Ghibli so important Although Miyazaki and I have gotten older, I am sure that.
