A man dies after a chainsaw accident in Finistère

A 57-year-old man died from a chainsaw accident on Saturday February 10, 2024 around 5:30 p.m. in Plougastel-Daoulas, as announced by Le Télégramme. He cut wood at his home, in the hamlet of Squiffiec, to the south of the town. However, arriving very quickly, the firefighters were, unfortunately, unable to do anything. The Landerneau gendarmes, in charge of the investigation, interviewed several witnesses.

Very involved in the community life of Plougastel-Daoulas, Paul Mallejac had trained many young people within the Plougastel football club, the B team in particular. He had also played as a midfielder for Étoile Saint-Guénolé, of which he then became secretary. He continued to play recreational football for a long time before stopping recently.

His death aroused great emotion in Plougastel. “It’s a shock”commented, with sadness, the mayor, Dominique Cap.

Husband of elected Claire Mallejac

Father of three children, Paul Mallejac was married to Claire Mallejac, who was also very involved in the town. Substitute for MP Richard Ferrand from 2012 to 2017, head of the list in the municipal elections, in 2008 and 2014, in Plougastel-Daoulas, she had been a municipal councilor, in the opposition, until 2017.

In honor of Paul Mallejac, Plougastel FC held a minute of silence this Sunday, February 11. A tribute continued next weekend, on all terrains.
