26th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a Cold Weather Warning at 11am, forecasting a significant drop in temperatures over the coming days. Tomorrow morning, urban areas are expected to experience minimum temperatures around 11 degrees Celsius, while parts of the New Territories and high-altitude regions will be notably colder.
Residents are advised to dress warmly and ensure proper ventilation in their homes. With strong winds anticipated on higher ground, the wind chill effect may make temperatures feel even lower, increasing the risk of hypothermia with prolonged exposure to these conditions.
A cold front is currently advancing across the Guangdong coast, bringing with it a vigorous winter monsoon that is set to impact the region. Meteorological data shows that temperatures in inland Guangdong this morning were approximately five degrees lower than the previous day.
-Today’s weather in Hong Kong is expected to remain predominantly cloudy, with a few light rain patches early on. Conditions will progressively become colder, accompanied by moderate to fresh northerly winds, which may occasionally strengthen offshore and in elevated areas.
Looking ahead, temperatures in urban regions are predicted to dip to around 11 and 12 degrees Celsius tomorrow and on Lunar New Year’s Eve. The weather is forecasted to clear and become very dry, although it will remain cold in the New Territories on Lunar New Year’s Day. Gradually increasing cloud cover is expected in the following days, with a possibility of light rain patches.
