“Super males” on Netflix, a “sex and the city” in masculine, but not that

TV series – men, “real”. Netflix puts online this Friday, January 24, season 1 of Super males, Adaptation of the Spanish series ALFA males. She follows the daily life of four quadras friends who sail in a world where patriarchy still exists, but is no longer really what it was. A French comedy that wants to be current and lacks neither background or spice despite his shortcomings.

In the preamble, it is however necessary to specify that those who have seen the series ALFA males can go their way. Its French version is really, really very faithful and would have few surprises in store for them. But on the other hand, for Netflix subscribers who would have missed this comedy Sex and the City which started in 2022 on the platform, Super males deserves that we stop there for a moment.

Super males Follows a bunch of Parisian friends in forty years: Cédric (Guillaume Labbé) advertiser's advertising of a teenager and as a couple with a former model, Tom (Manu Payet) Drawer still in love with his ex, Tonio (Vincent Heneine ) Fick but possessive, and Jérémie (Antoine Gouy) bicycle cop and overflowed father. All, in their own way, are confronted with what “being a man” means in 2025, in particular facing their respective companions (or conquests), but also with their children and society in general.

Netflix -style comedy

The series created by Noémie Saglio (Connut, heart plan, parents of students) is, it must be recognized, very funny. Difficult not to pouffle when a couple is interrupted in action in the shower, by a 6 -year -old child who came to the toilet. Same thing when the four friends who went to ski get into a trip with hallucinogenic mushrooms.

In this French romantic comedy, we also focus on the characters. We admit a crush on the couple formed by Antoine Gouy and Ariane Mourier, but also for the scathing dialogues between Cédric and his cleaning lady, or the insurance of the lawyer camped by Mélanie Bernier. Because Super males is centered on four men, but does not ignore their companions, far from it.

They are even they who trigger, more or less tacitly, the process of “deconstruction” whose four friends think they do not need. The women in the series act and affirm their desires and their needs, without questioning their legitimacy. Whether by posting PETS videos on Instagram, opening the couple to other sexual partners, or saying shit in daily lift, they initiate a change of background with their partner.

“Can do better” Super males

This new Netflix series is not perfect, however. We can regret for example that Super males Only only briefly evokes the male deconstruction course (led by a Franck Gastambid overwhelming) in which the four accomplices participate. The subject, however central in the trailer, is very stealthily brushed, and almost ridiculous.

We would also have liked a little more nuances in the portraits that are made of the different protagonists. The mother who lets herself go and is “necessarily” in jogging and begins to cry in front of the mistress, or the former model converted into the influence that lives to the hooks of her husband and changes sofa as a shirt, To name a few. Same thing with regard to the vision of the couple, which is sorely lacking in diversity, as in the original version of the series and other programs of this type elsewhere.

Magré that, the six episodes of this first season of Super males are very well regarded. And could even, who knows how to trigger conversations and initiate questions too, in some subscribers.
